CNN —Timothy Burke, a former journalist, has been charged with 14 federal crimes over the alleged hack and leaking of a series of unflattering behind-the-scenes clips of Tucker Carlson, according to an indictment unsealed Thursday. In the grand jury indictment, Burke was charged with one count of conspiracy, six counts of accessing a protected computer without authorization, and seven counts of intercepting or disclosing wire, oral or electronic communications. In one unaired clip posted by Vice in 2022, Kanye West was seen making antisemitic remarks to Carlson. The following year, after Carlson was fired from Fox News, the progressive watchdog Media Matters posted embarrassing behind-the-scenes footage of Carlson making crude remarks while joking with staff and denigrating the Fox Nation streaming service. What was most startling about Tucker Carlson’s recent trip to Russia wasn’t his obsequious interview with Vladimir Putin but his gushing days afterward over how wonderful a place Moscow is. Imagine, for example, that you brought people to New York and made sure that all they saw was the Upper East Side near the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They’d come away with the impression that New York is a very clean, spiffy-looking city. The truth is that while parts of Moscow offer a small elite an opulent lifestyle, Russia as a whole is more than a bit ramshackle. For many Russians, life is poor, nasty, brutish and short: Life expectancy is substantially lower than in the United States, even though America’s life expectancy has fallen and lags that of other advanced countries.

In a video posted to X announcing the sit-down Tuesday — the first interview Putin has granted with a Western media figure since his full-scale invasion of Ukraine two years ago — Carlson predictably and dishonestly villainized the press. “Does Tucker really think we journalists haven’t been trying to interview President Putin every day since his full scale invasion of Ukraine?” CNN’s Christiane Amanpour rhetorically remarked upon seeing Carlson’s claim. New York CNN —Tucker Carlson’s top producer, who left Fox News along with the far-right host to work on his X show, is accused of sexually assaulting a former colleague in an alleged incident that occurred more than a decade ago. Andrew Delancey, a former Fox News employee, filed a lawsuit against Justin Wells, the former executive producer of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” accusing him of sexual assault and harassment in 2008 when Delancey moved to New York for a job with Fox News’ affiliate video service. In the lawsuit, Delancey alleges that he was befriended by Wells who told Delancey he could help him “learn the ropes” of the right-wing cable network. At the time Wells was a producer for Greta Van Susteren’s Fox News show. Fox fired Carlson in April and canceled his program during the fallout from the $787 million lawsuit settlement between Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A former Fox News reporter says in a lawsuit he was targeted and fired for pushing back against false claims about the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. A spokeswoman for Fox News did not immediately return an email message seeking comment on the lawsuit. Donner also debunked Tucker Carlson’s “Patriot Purge," a program on the Fox Nation streaming service that argued Jan. 6 was used as a pretext for persecution of conservative Americans. The lawsuit was first filed in Washington’s Superior Court Sept. 27 and subsequently moved to federal court. Fox also faced a lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems and paid nearly $800 million this year to settle the case alleging that Fox knowingly promoted false conspiracy theories about the security of its voting machines.

CNN —Television veteran Geraldo Rivera announced on Thursday that he was leaving Fox News after being fired from the program “The Five.”“I’m not going to be on ‘The Five,’” Rivera said of the right-wing network’s 5 p.m. talk show in a video posted to Twitter. “I’ve been fired from ‘The Five.’”“And, as a result of that, I quit Fox,” Rivera said in the video filmed from a boat off Long Island’s Jones Beach. A Fox News spokesperson did not immediately respond to a CNN request for comment. Rivera, who has been with the right-wing network since 2001, said he will “have more to say” about his decision during the “Fox and Friends” program on Friday morning. But Rivera said at the time he would remain with the network as correspondent at large.

Fox News shook up its prime-time lineup on Monday in the first major reorganization to its most popular programming since the beginning of the Trump administration. The moves include permanently filling the 8 p.m. slot that has been vacant since the network canceled Tucker Carlson’s show in April. Mr. Gutfeld’s show will now be at 10 p.m.Laura Ingraham, who has hosted a 10 p.m. program since 2017, will move to 7 p.m., occupying the hour that Mr. Watters has been hosting. Sean Hannity, a mainstay at Fox News since its early days, will remain in his 9 p.m. slot. Fox’s prime time ratings have consistently been the highest in cable news but have fallen off by roughly one-third since the network took Mr. Carlson off the air.

Two top producers for Tucker Carlson’s former show have left Fox News, in the latest fallout from the network’s benching of Mr. Carlson. Alexander McCaskill, a senior producer and formerly the managing editor of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” wrote on Instagram that his last day at the network was Thursday. Thomas Fox, who was a senior editorial producer on that show, also departed this week, according to two people with knowledge of the moves. One of the people said Mr. McCaskill and Mr. Fox had been in discussions to leave the network before Tuesday, when a chyron that appeared on Fox News called President Biden a “wannabe dictator.”In a video posted to Twitter on Thursday, Mr. Carlson said the chyron had been posted by a producer at the network who had since left. While he did not identify Mr. McCaskill by name, Mr. Carlson listed facts about the person, such as his length of time at the network, that matched Mr. McCaskill.

Fox has ideology, of course (which has cycled through different flavors of conservatism over the decades), but it also has an aesthetic. Fox News is designed to look like it is broadcasting from the top of the world; “Tucker on Twitter” looks not unlike something livestreamed after the apocalypse. Carlson could be different; Fox News has yet to recover in the prime-time ratings from his sudden departure. But Carlson, for all his anti-elite posturing, is wholly a creature of legacy TV, having hosted shows on Fox, CNN and MSNBC. They say you’re wrong, you’re crazy, you’re a racist.
